Swiss Law on Transparency Regarding Sustainability Aspects

Last updated: October 15, 2024

What led to the change?

The Swiss Federal Council initiated the change in response to growing international demands for more transparency and uniformity in corporate sustainability reporting. This decision was influenced by the need to align Swiss regulations with the evolving European and international standards.

What will change?

Based on the proposal, some 3,500 companies will be required to report on the impacts, risks and opportunities linked to their business activity in the areas of environment, human rights and corruption and the measures they have taken to address them, in line with the EU CSRD or an equivalent international reporting standard, as described by the Federal Council.

What are next steps?

In June 2024 the Federal Council issued a legislative proposal, reflecting both international developments and Swiss-specific needs. A public consultation process has been opened until October 17, 2024.

How is Intently involved?

Intently has participated in the public consultation with shared observations and recommendations regarding the following aspects: (1) impact on companies below the reporting threshold, (2) precision regarding applicable reporting standards, (3) inclusion of opportunities in the scope of legislative text, (4) recommendations for the transition phase.
